I arrived home yesterday around noon. Ate, showered, and passed out. Then I went to see my travel companion (Joenathen) and my best bud Sam before he left for a month.
I don’t drink, or smoke…but here is a pic of me drinking and smoking our LA cigars to celebrate our successful return.
Here is a pic of the second sunrise I saw in a row right before I got home. I took this pic going 75mph down the HWY!
I will end this blog with a cartoon my dad showed me that made me laugh harder than I have in many months.
Thanks for those who have kept up with me! Until next summer- this was Art’s road trip 2012.
I want to move to Albuquerque because of this burger…
And it was 100x better than it even looks! Wow.
After I ate breakfast I rode for a few hours and then started falling asleep again! So I found an abandon semi truck bed and made it into my bedroom..
All was well, I slept for about an hour, and then something bit me! And I mean bit the shit out of me. Turns out…fire ants…I think that was my first experience with their shitty attitudes. I has been sleeping surrounded by them the whole time! Needless to say I was back on the road very quickly. The bit felt like a wasp, and it grew into a pretty good welt. Getting a colony of those guys attacking you could be deadly.
I finally made it to Albuquerque! Very hungry…luckily the first exit I took lead me to a whole foods store, so I bought 10 cliff bars and got directions to an awesome local vegan cafe. It’s called the Mint Tulip.
It’s just like Something Better! I ordered their made in-house beet burger, should be ready any second. I hope I have room to try the hot wings as well!
After Justine left it was still too hot to ride so I caught a flick, saw Moonlight Kingdom. It was fantastic! Then I rode far as i could.
This was dinner…didn’t quite cut it!
By 2am I was dangerously tired. It got crazy cold in the AZ mountains. All of a sudden it was 60 out. It was so insanely dark too… I pulled over at one point to check directions and when I turned my bike off I couldn’t see a thing, except for the most beautiful star filled sky I’ve ever seen! I also saw one massive elk, and two groups of deer right off the road…that scared me into parking for the night.
This was my bed.
In a gas station parking lot. I slept with my helmet on for warmth and it turned it made and fantastic pillow! The cement was a bit unforgiving though… I slept in till about 5am and started Riding again. Saw my first sunrise in years!
Look close and you can probably see an airplane and windmills, it was so beautiful!
I took that pic about 30min ago. Now i’m in some nameless mountain town eating an omelette in a cute little local cafe. I’m gonna try to drive the 17hrs home today. We shall see…
This is the cafe..
So I left Vegas yesterday morning, at around 8am.
My first destination was just south of phoenix. It took me about 6 and a half hours. It was a bit of a detour but I had been contacting a girl named Justine from there and she seemed really cool, so in the spirit of my freedom I decided to make the day’s drive just to have lunch with her. We also ended up playing some great frisbee! And she broke her flip flop..
She is a fantastic person! I’m so glad I got to meet her, we talked for 4hrs, I had an awesome veggie burger, and then we played frisbee until she had to leave. While we ate a group of real live mormons walked by, I made friends with them too!
Now I have to come back and visit next year.
Dad and I were killing time before Penn & Teller so we explored several miles of the strip. One of the entertainers we saw were playing old funk and they played rapper’s delight! My favorite 🙂 then they said free shots for everyone if the bartenders could throw a cherry across the bar and stab it on a drink sword in another bartender’s mouth. Sure enough they did it and the guy walked around ON the bar pouring shots into everyone’s mouths!
In the next casino we found the blues brothers!
Return of the mustache sunglasses!
