So I knew from the start that I needed to have a Harley for this trip. Out the over 50 motorcycles I’ve owned, not a one of them has been a HD! So what more fitting time to invest than when taking a road trip across half the US? The only Harley I am interested in owning at the moment is a sportster. At first I thought I only wanted an 883, until I rode one and realized it was slow as piss, and they are only rated for 1-2 more mpgs. A 1200 was on my list at that point. Not just any 1200, there are many kinds, first there is the plain old xl1200…boring. Then there is the “C” (custom), “L” (low), “R” (roadster), and what I want, “S” (sport). The only ones I am interested in are the “R” and the “S”. They are pretty similar, the “R” is a newer model and is very bad ass but they are expensive and don’t have some of the qualities of the “S” that I want. This link says all the goodies about the “S” model:
I was sold at the higher compression, cams, and dual-plug per cylinder head! But then the list just keeps going. ANYWAY, long story short, I found one in Eureka Springs and picked it up immediately.
2000 model, “S” with about 23,000 miles. I’ll put new tires on her and try to stop an oil leak, other than that, I’m ready to go!
I LOVE the red and black…it is a very pretty, deep red.
My helper Nate Stevens, the son of Joe Stevens of Happy Trails is going to aid me in the tire swap today and get this bike ready for the trip of a life time.
